Late Summer Issue 2011
Director’s Chat
Norm and I (Scott) would to thank all of the people that we have worked with and met over the years for your support of Camp Pepin and for your trust in our stewardship of the camp. We have strived to make it a safe and welcoming place for everyone and we will take many memories with us as we begin our new business in Red Wing, Minnesota. We know that camp will be in good hands for many years to come.
We would also like to introduce Josh Cobb, who directed the Red Wing YMCA’s Day Camp program this summer and will be overseeing Camp Pepin throughout the Fall. Josh recently served the camping industry in several capacities at YMCA Camp St. Croix in Hudson, Wisconsin. He brings with him numerous experiences that will benefit camp during this transitional period. When you’re visiting camp, please give Josh a friendly welcome.

Come Stay With Us
Many people associate Camp Pepin with summer, since our Summer Camp program is at the core of what camp is all about. During the rest of the year, however, camp becomes a retreat center that offers cozy facilities, full meal services, and a beautiful setting to youth and adult groups and to families. With winterized cabins, several indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, recreational activities, a team-building course, and close proximity to quaint towns, camp is an ideal place to spend a weekend get-away. Contact our Camp Office Manager, Joetta Oien, at 651-388-4724 or joien@redwingymca.org to book your next retreat at camp.
Camp Almanac
There were some very warm days this summer, but already night is coming earlier than it did at the beginning of summer camp. Sumac leaves will be the first to change color, turning a crimson red against the green of other nearby trees. The Summer Triangle – made up of the constellations Lyra the lyre, Cygnus the swan, and Aquilla the eagle, is overhead after sunset, with Cassiopeia, queen of the heavens, coming around to announce the approaching fall.
